Abstract:

Objective- Although the promotional effects on bone healing of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF)have been well demonstrated, the effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) remained unclear. In this study, effects of SMFs on clinical and biomechanical aspects of bone healing using a canine unstable osteotomygap model were investigated .Design- Prospective descriptive trial.Animals- Fifteen mongrel dogs, 4 to 5 years old and weighing 15.5 to 21.3 kg.Procedures- After an osteotomy of the midshaft radius , bone healing was evaluated over an 8-weekperiod in control dogs (n = 5) and experimental dogs exposed to medium (700 gauss) (MSMF) and high (1500 ga uss) (HSMF) magnetic fields (n = five/each group). Bone heal ing was assessed clinicall y andbiomechanically .Results- Dogs exposed to HSMF had more improved lameness scores in co ntras t to the MSMF andcontrol dogs. Significantly, greater for ces (p

Effect of a static magnetic field on bone healing in the dog: radiographic and histopathological studies

Although the promotional effects on bone healing of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) have beenwell demonstrated, the effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) remained unclear. In this study, effects of acustom-made magnetic wrap on radiographic and histopathological aspects of bone healing using a canineunstable osteotomy gap model were investigated. After an osteotomy of the midshaft radius...

The Effect of Bone Marrow Graft on Bone Healing: A Radiological and Biomechanical Study

Background: There are multiple methods for acceleration of bone healing. Bone marrow has been shown to contain osteoprogenitor cells. Objective: To determine the effect of percutaneous bone marrow injection on bone healing. Methods: 15 mature, 2-kg-weighing white New Zealand rabbits from both sexes were randomized into 3 groups: Group I: Only osteotomy of right radius was performed and a 5 mm b...

Effect of Autogenous Omental Free Graft on the Biomechanical Properties of Fracture Healing in Dog

Objective- To evaluate greater omentum as an autogenous free graft in enhancing bone healing.Design- Prospective descriptive trial.Animals- Ten mongrel adult dogs, 3 to 4 years old and weighing 25.2 to 31 kg, assigned into two equal experimental and control groups (5dogs/group), were used.Procedures- Mid-shaft osteotomy on right radius was followed by a partial omentectomy in all dogs. A 30x30 ...
